This recipe was created by Dawn herself and it’s one of our favourites. It’s a great introduction to cake/biscuit decoration for beginners. This recipe is great for younger kids and those with disabilities as it enhances their fine motor skills. You can also totally personalise this to your liking (by choosing the type of biscuit and topping).
We would like to credit BakingMad for the glacé icing recipe: https://www.bakingmad.com/recipes/glace-icing
Glacé icing (often referred to as royal icing) is a glossy, runny-like icing made by combining icing sugar by water. It is used on many different types of cakes and biscuits. We chose this particular icing because it is quick and convenient to make.
Recipe notes
Any plain biscuits will work with these. We used ‘NICE’ biscuits. For the topping, we chose chocolate but you can use any type of sweet or chocolate. The icing can be customised by adding 1tsp of cocoa powder or a drop vanilla extract.
(Makes 10 biscuits)
Ingredients
• Any type of plain biscuits (rich tea, digestive, nice, etc)
• Sweets or chocolate for topping
For the glacé icing:
• 125g icing sugar
• 15ml warm water
Method
1. Sift the icing sugar in a bowl and add your water gradually. The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. (If necessary, add more water or icing sugar to adjust the consistency.)
2. Carefully spoon the icing onto each biscuit.
3. Put your toppings on each biscuit.
4. Place the biscuits in an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
